Burning firewood that keeps your flue cleaner
Choosing the right firewood can help keep your chimney cleaner.

Selecting the Right Wood
Opt for seasoned hardwoods such as oak, maple, or ash for your fireplace. These woods burn hotter and longer, producing less creosote, the sticky residue that can accumulate in chimneys.
Avoid using softwoods like pine, which contain more sap and can increase creosote buildup in your flue.
Proper Wood Storage
Store firewood in a dry, elevated location to ensure it is well-seasoned. Stack wood loosely off the ground and cover the top to protect it from moisture.
Proper storage reduces the moisture content in wood, allowing it to burn efficiently and minimize creosote production.
Using Manufactured Logs
Consider using manufactured logs designed to produce less creosote. These are made from compressed sawdust and other natural materials.
While they can be more expensive, they can be a cleaner-burning option, particularly if used in combination with seasoned hardwoods.
